SYNOPSIS:
The Advisory Board on Autism and Related Disorders (ABOARD) is a grassroots organization that serves the state of Pennsylvania. It developed in the early 1990's from a need for nonjudgemental information about autisitc disorders and their growing list of treatments. ABOARD believes that if parents have enough information, they will be able to determine the most appropriate measures for their child. Although ABOARD is parent-driven, it is supported by a large group of professionals who share their core belief.
AVAILABLE SERVICES:
> Provide personal assistance for the newly diagnosed.
> Family Service Coordinators: Individuals available by phone or email to provide personalized support, information, and assistance related to education, advocacy rights, and resources. This serice includes free personalized information packets mailed to families and professionals.
> Supports Groups: ABOARD financially sponsors the largest netword of ASD support groups in Pennsylvania. They are willing to support new groups in Pennsylvania and surrounding states.
> Lending Library: ABOARD operates a statewide free lending library of autism-related books, videos, and DVDs. Also excepts suggestions for new titles.
> Publications: ABOARD publishes a quarterly newletters on the latest autism-related news and events. Also produces a weekly email update. These do offer advertisement opportunities.
> Workshops: ABOARD organizes and hosts accredited educational conferences and workshops. They will also assist organizations in locating educational speakers for community events like health fairs and awareness nights.
