Pakistan Planning

It is time for some more definite plans.   This is July and September is two months away.
We decided to use Google Docs, develop a survey to determine the needs of the teachers wll use the Lahore children for the Art Curriculum

Google Docs
Teachers need to learn how to open or create a file, edit the file, and save.  Will someone(s) develop a tutorial to teach them just that.  Anyone know the ersatz power point in Google?  I will create one for the spreadsheet.

Survey
I think the survey will turn into a census.  It will be very valuable information, but not yet useful for planning.  From what I have heard from Dr. Ikram a little more than 50% of the children have Internet access at school.
We need to design what we do for teachers who have no internet access in the classroom and for those that have multiple access.  Keep in mind that we are teaching the teachers and not the children.

And now comes a hard part.  What do we want the teachers coming away with after a year with ESF.

I will give an ongoing seminar on the different ways we think and how that impinges on how we teach.  I assume we want to talk about learning styles.  What other general principles?

Psych and Family
Sheila and Patricia how do you conceive this part of the project.

Vite-N-Hope

This is the Forum to discuss activities with the teachers in Lahore.

Special children in Al-Havee School, Lahore, Pakistan.

The management of the Vite-N-Hope is pleased and content to do positive work with ASF New York-USA. There are slow learners, mentally retarded and also socially immobilize children in this school. VNH has especially furnished one room by the name of Dr. Bob, which is comprised of computers, special CD’s. Puzzle games, soft and notice boards, playing games, reading and pictorial books, multimedia along with screen. This room has been especially been designed to groom the special children under the guidance of Dr. Bob. Ms. Sumaira Chaudhry and Ms. Samar Nazeer have been appointed to lead this program for the special children of Al-Havee School. Mr. Mushtaq is the CEO of this school and he has developed a very précised Performa to evaluate the different kinds of psychological problems of the children and their parents. Vite-N-Hope has decided to organize a special meeting for the parents of the children to update them about the importance of this special program.

"What do we want the teachers coming away with after a year?"

Global: ESF promotes cognitive, behavioral, and social-emotional growth of children and families.
After a one year intervention of ESF team work any where in the world should be reflected in greater successes in the educational environment. Note, surveying the specific communities engaged in the process will enable greater specificity.)
.................................................................................................................................................................................
ESF would want faculty (supervisors, consultants and teachers) to demonstrate increased strategies for enabling student success. Parent involement would increase the success:
Access to our resources will be reflected in each of the following:

  • Increased insite to planning strategies, learning styles and greater coping with social-emotional problems as well as strengths
  • Increased variety of strategies for implementing goals that promote cognitive, behavioral, and social-emotional growth of children and families
  • Increased professional commitment to professional ethics and standards as well as  life-long learning.
  • Increased effectiveness in evaluating education intervention programs that promote cognitive, behavioral, and social-emotional growth of children and families.
  • Increased knowledge and variety of skills to plan and conduct educational research and evaluation programs.

Assessment will reflect growth of these skills in student learning and greater coping with social-emotional problems as well as increased strengths in communicating their needs for the future

Thoughts

I think that everything written above is important. From my experience with Pakistan it seemed to me that Prof Sam really wanted his students to hear English spoken by Americans. Because I did no have any idea what it was he needed at that moment I was confused. He had me talk with three different schools and three different age groups.

I wonder how we can best assist him in reaching his goal? He may have a new goal when gets back to us.

 Warmly,

Katherine Bolman, Ph.D.
