GRASS ROOTS
Using The Magedit MOO Editor
NOTE: The TV on GR has an interactive Magedit tutorial.Magedit changes the properties of objects. The Building and Programming on Grass Roots tutorial has more info on this subject and can be accessed by the following link:
The command for using Magedit has the following syntax:
- @magedit object.property
ie: @magedit here.descriptionWhen in Magedit, to see the current text of the property enter:
- list
This will tell you how many lines are in the file [the range from 1 to whatever the ending line is], and will ask you which lines you wish to list. After you choose the beginning and ending line numbers it will show you those lines in the property. Be sure to type this after adding or deleting any lines, because all line numbers will change below the addition or subtraction of a line.
If you wish to add text to the end of what you already have.. enter the new text, starting the text with a quote mark, similar to sending MOOmail or speaking. You may add a line or a whole paragraph by entering:
- "text
ie: "You see a small, red ballWhen finished with a line, press the Enter key.
To insert new text in the middle of text you already have, look at the numbers of the lines where you want to insert it. Then using the line number where you want the inserted text enter:
- ins line#
Then type in your text, beginning with a quote [ " ] as you did above.
To delete a line, enter:
- del line#
To see what you have edited thus far, again enter:
- list
When you are finished editing, enter:
- save
Then, to quit or leave Magedit, enter:
- done
NOTE: It's important to save your work and quit the editor, or else your work will be lost.
If you use Windows or a Mac, you can write text off-line in NotePad or a similar program. Make sure that there are no line breaks for a paragraph -- a paragraph will be one long line before you paste it into Magedit. Then copy & paste just that line of text [however long it is] after the quote mark, or put the " before each entry in NotePad.
