The Social Center

Humans are social animals.  Most of us are happiest in crowds. The Internet has become a place for social interaction and fun.  ESF, in its continual efforts to make the Internet accessible to all, has
created this page for those who are seeking real-time communication with other netizens and those who are seeking some fun ways to spend some time on the computer.  This page is divided into three sections: real-time communication options, local online games and diversions, and links to other sites for your audio and visual pleasure.

Real-Time Communication

In ESF's continuing efforts to bring the Internet to those who would not ordinarily be reached by it, we have made Synchronous Communication one of our priorities because we feel that it enhances one's enjoyment and the usefulness of the Internet.  Synchronous communication, or real-time communication, is talk or multimedia that is shown or is written at the time it happens and it    is viewed by another at almost that same time. This type of  communication, unlike e-mail, lends itself to the human need for  immediate interaction. We here at ESF would like to foster this type    of on-line real-time communication.  We are building a worldwide community, and we have chosen to offer three options to our community's citizens:   GrassRoots IRC, GrassRoots Mini-MOO Chat and GrassRoots MOO.   To learn more, access the links below.

          GrassRoots IRC

Find out where all your friends and neighbors are congregating these days. IRC is tailor-made
for busy people who want to chat briefly with    their friends in the simplest way possible.

          GrassRoots Mini-MOO Chat Room

Begin to explore Text Based Virtual Reality by accessing our Mini-MOO chat room. MOOing
made easy and fun, while giving you an opportunity to expand into the full use of Text Based
          Virtual Reality.

          GrassRoots MOO

The TBVR part (called a MOO) can be explored in real-time, and also serves as a place for
the members of the lists to gather and have discussions.

These three real-time roads toward building community are text- based, which is a  typical accommodation of the community. We have a deep-rooted concern  to be accessible to as many Net users as possible, including those with physical, mental, and sensory disabilities.  Keeping these options text based allows all community members, even those with older equipment, to participate.

Online Games and Recreation

We'd like to pique your interest with a couple of online games. they are fully accessible.  We think you will enjoy playing them.

Other Sites for fun and Relaxation

Here you will find several links to sites on the Net made for fun. Enjoy!  If you have a favorite site in this category, let us know about it. This part of the ESF web is under construction.  There are no links here yet, but come back often and check.
